There is only 36 Days left until the Paris 2024 Olympics and there is one question that every Australian Football fan has in mind, can the Matilda’s win Gold?
After a successful World Cup finishing 4th place the highest any Australian team has been at a World Cup the question that everyone has in the back of their minds is that “Does the Matilda’s have enough in them to win a tournament?”. My answer is Yes, they do. Don’t get me wrong not having the 2nd best player in the world (According to the Ballon d’Or Féminin) Sam Kerr in the squad is a huge loss but her not playing the first 3 games of the World Cup last year and not playing any of the friendlies leading up to the Olympics it goes to show that they have enough depth in the squad that they’re not relying on one person to win for them.
They got the right manager in charge in Tony Gustavsson. They got the best skipper in Steph Catley. They’ve got more players playing in high level leagues across the world. Apart from Spain there isn’t a country that are better than them at the moment (Yes, I do think the Matilda’s are better than England). The only thing that are stopping Australia…is really Australia. Australia has had a pretty poor showing in the Olympics after escaping the Quarter Finals just once and that was in 2020 meaning that the most games, they’ve ever won at an Olympics has been 2!.
With a more experienced squad that they had 4 years ago. The tillies have everything in their locker to GET IT DONE.
