And this is not my Irish side coming out (well partially) It’s mainly because of their coach. Gareth Southgate isn’t a great coach. His blatant favoritisms that he has with some players is affecting how the teams play. Playing Trent at Centre Midfield who’s his main position has always been right back while players like Mainoo who had a brilliant first senior season (even missing the beginning because of his pre-season injury) or even Wharton who had a great season at Crystal Palace. His decisions have been very poor and frankly I’m very happy about it.

Ever since the last Euro’s where they lost in the final against Italy the English media has been describing Southgate like he’s a tactical genius, an English Jose Mourinho but in all honestly, he’s bang average.

When there were talks mid-season about replacing Erik ten Hag at the end of the season with Gareth Southgate I was fuming. He accomplished nothing and yet getting an opportunity to manage one of the most prestigious teams in the world. Ian Wright made a comment that he dresses like a Man United manger!? so what? Pep dresses like he’s going to go and collect his click and collect and he’s still winning trophies. It’s a classic case of the English media supporting the English coaches more than other respectable ones.

So, what’s next for England? I do believe that they will make it past the group stage but will get knocked out soon after. Southgate will leave and England will have to look for a new manager. Who will it be? I don’t know, Lee Carsley who is the England U-21 Manager recently turned down the position to be the Ireland manager so he must be waiting on the sidelines for the call up. But will the FA take the gamble of hiring from within again even though with the squad they had they won nothing. But who else is out there? we just to have to wait and see.
